Archive tools are about compatibility and safe handling. RAR is common, but it is awkward when the person receiving the file does not have WinRAR or another extractor installed. ZIP is built into Windows, macOS, and most phones, which makes it the safer format for handoff.

The current archive tool extracts a standard RAR archive locally and repackages the contents as a ZIP. It does not upload the archive, and it does not change the files inside. Folder structure and filenames are preserved when the browser can read the archive.

What to check before converting

  • Password-protected RAR files cannot be converted unless the archive can be decrypted first.
