Image conversion is often less about the pixels and more about the destination. JFIF files usually appear when a browser saves a JPEG photo with an unusual .jfif extension. The image is valid, but some upload forms, document tools, and older apps refuse it.
The current image tool converts JFIF or JPEG to PNG in the browser. That gives you a widely accepted PNG file without uploading the image. It is useful for compatibility, but it does not magically restore quality that was already lost in the original JPEG data.
Fix rejected uploads
Use PNG when a form asks for a common image type and refuses a .jfif file even though the picture opens elsewhere.

PNG is a better working copy when you need to place the image into slides, documents, design tools, or screenshots.

What to check before converting
- PNG is lossless, but converting from JFIF cannot recover detail removed by JPEG compression.
- PNG files can be larger than JPEG, especially for photos. Use it when compatibility matters more than smallest size.
- If the destination accepts JPG and file size is important, renaming or converting to JPG may be a better future tool.
