Up to 20 MB and 100 pages per file · 10 files / 40 MB per batch

We try progressively stronger compression. Some PDFs cannot reach this size without losing more detail. 1 KB = 1,000 bytes.

How to use Compress PDF to 500KB

  1. 1Choose or drop one or more PDF files.
  2. 2Check the 500KB target and image quality floor, then compress.
  3. 3Compare the actual file size and preview, then download your PDF.

Reduce a PDF below 500KB

The target on this page is less than 500,000 bytes. Compression stops at the first verified result that fits as it moves from higher to lower image quality. It does not keep reducing quality after reaching the target.

A 500KB budget gives many documents more room for images than a 100KB or 200KB limit, but page count and image complexity still matter. Long scanned documents may remain larger than the target.

An example that reached the target

In a self-authored textured-image test, a 1,850,930-byte PDF reached 391,116 bytes with the default image quality floor. That result was below 500KB. It is a specific test result; other PDFs may shrink less or not at all.

Use the before-and-after preview to check fine print, image detail, and diagrams. If the result is too soft, increase the quality floor and run it again. The new result may be larger.

Choose the limit your destination actually requires

If the destination only accepts 200KB or 100KB, use that stricter target. For email or sharing without a fixed size requirement, the general PDF compressor offers Keep quality and Balanced settings.

When the original already fits, it is kept unchanged. All available files in a batch can be downloaded together; the ZIP itself has packaging overhead and is not checked against the per-PDF 500KB target.

FAQ

Can every PDF be compressed to 500KB?

No. Page count, fonts, image data, and existing compression all affect the final size. The tool tries bounded quality settings and checks the actual bytes. If it cannot get below 500KB, it shows the smallest result it found without claiming the target was reached.

What counts as under 500KB?

Here, 1 KB means 1,000 bytes. The result must be strictly below 500,000 bytes. A rounded display value is not used to decide whether the file fits.

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. PDF compression and preview run locally in your browser. The site downloads its processing software and may send anonymous usage events, but it does not send your file contents or filenames.

Is this PDF compressor free?

Yes. There is no sign-up or daily usage quota. Each PDF can be up to 20 MB and 100 pages, with up to 10 files and 40 MB in a batch. Processing also depends on available browser memory.

Will my PDF keep its text and image quality?

Text stays selectable and pages are not converted to images. Keep quality avoids lossy image recompression. Balanced, Smaller file, and Target size may reduce image quality. Check important details before submitting your result.

Can I compress a signed or password-protected PDF?

This version does not process encrypted PDFs, signature fields, XFA forms, or documents that need repair. Use an unsigned, unencrypted original that you are authorized to edit.
